Pete in Kate Tempest, Secret Sessions, patti smith

Secret Sessions are on a roll. Hot on the heels of a fine performance from Billy Bragg, their next offering is this from the remarkable Kate Tempest.

An energising and inspiring spoken word poet, she has taken a break from band performances with Sound of Rum to pick up the Ted Hughes prize for Brand New Ancients which reimagines old gods in a contemporary south London setting.

Her energy, rhythm and sheer creativity make me think of a young Patti Smith. Imagine what 'Piss Factory' might have sounded like if its author had grown up listening to hip hop...

At just 26, she's a published poet and playwright. It will be fascinating to see what happens next.
